I became interested in painting in the Bohemian art style original oil painting after seeing many paintings like this in a gallery.  I wanted to try my hand at painting in this style.  I started with the concept of painting an underwater world for an imaginary persona of a mermaid.  I asked myself how I would portray the mermaid. I decided she should share a friendship and a oneness with her world through the elements underwater to accompany the mermaid.  In the orginal oil painting, the fish, on her head, are irridecent and they glow when you see the painting at a certain angle.  I also used cold wax to represent the seaweed and water splash.  I wanted these elements to raise off the canvas as though they are 3D.  The separation of her eyes from her face represent to me how her eyesight is even part of part of the natural world around her.  The crab represents the flowing and rolling sights around the crab that is captivated by the mermaid's beauty too.  The octopus represents how its beauty and color is able to catch her sight even when it has a sullen composure.  The jellyfish reprents the freedom of this great underwater world around them and the power of her attraction.
